Sensing Spaces: Architecture Reimagined - Closed

Description

This attraction has now closed

Architecture Reimagined will see the Main Galleries of the Royal Academy of Arts transformed by seven architectural practices from around the world. The RA has commissioned the architects to create site-specific installations; the shared brief is to evoke the experience and power of architecture. The exhibition considers architecture from the angle of the human encounter: how vision, touch, sound and memory play a role in our perceptions of space, proportion, materials and light.

Sensing Spaces invites visitors to experience the Royal Academy through seven immersive installations designed by renowned architects from around the world. By engaging with the structures, textures, sounds, spaces and even scents, visitors will become part of these unique environments and feel stimulated to consider the power of architecture to influence our state of mind.

‘Architecture is the ever-present background to our lives and we often don’t recognise the impact it has. We have challenged the architects to create an experience which excites the senses and sparks the imagination. We hope to transform the way you think about the spaces around you and how they make you feel’. Kate Goodwin, Drue Heinz Curator of Architecture at the RA
